Scope
This procedure forms part of 黑料网911鈥檚 Tuition Policy (the 鈥淧olicy鈥) and should be followed and applied in relation to the refund of Tuition and Mandatory Fees under the Policy. Terms not otherwise defined in this procedure are as defined in the Policy.
Roles and Responsibilities
Refunds are processed through the Registrar鈥檚 Office and issued by 黑料网911鈥檚 Finance Department.
Students are responsible for ensuring they are aware of withdrawal and refund timelines as per 黑料网911鈥檚 published Academic Calendar, and that they withdraw from courses in a timely manner.
Procedural Guiding Principles
- This procedure is intended to provide consistency in processes and a transparent experience for the student who is voluntarily withdrawing from a course, while respecting the various types of instructional activity.
- Tuition deposits, commitment, and application fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
- Refunds are calculated from the date the student withdraws online or when official withdrawal is received in the Registrar鈥檚 Office.
- Unpaid fines and other amounts owing will be deducted from the refund.
- Students required to withdraw due to violation of 黑料网911 Policy 3205 Student Code of Conduct are not entitled to a refund.
- A full refund is issued if the course is cancelled.
- Extenuating circumstances may be considered outside of the deadlines indicated below.
- Refund information is provided at the time of registration.
- Certain programs, such as the B.C. Police Recruit Training Program, may have separate refund conditions or restrictions communicated during registration, orientation or otherwise. Where such conditions or restrictions are stated in writing and acknowledged by the student, they will supersede the general provisions of this procedure.
Compassionate Withdrawals
Students who experience serious medical, emotional, or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control may request a withdrawal and/or refund consideration through the Compassionate Withdrawal & Appeals After the Refund Period process. Documentation supporting the extenuating circumstances is required. Information about this process, including submission requirements and deadlines, is available at www.jibc.ca/registration/fees-refunds.
Refund Deadlines
Semester Courses
- If a student withdraws prior to the start of the course, they receive a 100% refund less any required deposit, commitment and application fee.
- If a student withdraws within the first two weeks of class, they will be eligible for 80% refund less any required deposit, commitment and application fee.
- After the second week of classes there is no refund for Semester Courses.
Short Courses
- If a student withdraws seven calendar days prior to the beginning of the course they receive a 100% refund.
- Withdrawal with less than seven calendar days from the start of the course are not eligible for Tuition refund.
- Some courses may have non-refundable Tuition, application, and/or material fees (this will be identified at the time of registration).
Continuous Entry Courses
Continuous Entry Courses are not eligible for refunds.
