Course Details
Conflict is an inescapable element of life and competencies in analyzing and resolving conflict are essential for success in any law enforcement professional. This 3-credit course will equip learners with the theoretical concepts, process models and practical skills to effectively work with conflict. Through examination of the sources of conflict, personal attitudes and beliefs, conflict styles, and the role of assumptions and emotions, learners will gain an overview of conflict dynamics and intentions for collaboration. Learners will then apply a structured model and collaborative interpersonal communication skills to hold a successful conflict resolution dialogue. Learning is enhanced by structured exercises, simulations, critical reflection, class assignments and case study examinations.
This course is only open to students who have been admitted to the Diploma of Law Enforcement Studies. Please see the LESD program page for more information, and for instructions on how to apply to the program.
